Enjoying the 2020 Fall Sports Season From Home

It’s hard not to get enthusiastic about football season when you live near a college that’s well-known for its athletics. This season, we’ve already seen 6 Penn State Nittany Lions join the NFL ranks, and possibly more to come. No wonder Berks Home communities are filled with college and pro football fans! And we’re here to share ways to enjoy this unusual sports season at home.

Addressing Health And Safety

It’s comforting to know Pennsylvania State University is taking the health of students and locals so seriously. If you already live in the area, you know how their efforts have made an impact! The college and community have worked together to keep locals healthy during COVID-19—who wouldn’t want to live in an area with such caring citizens? Find out more about living in the friendly suburbs of Pennsylvania.

But being a sports fan has a whole new look this year. For the safety of players and fans, Penn State is not allowing stadium visitors for this season's games. How can you support your favorite pro team or our local Penn State champs without attending games in-person? We’ve got plenty of ideas!

What Sports Are Back?

Before planning your game-day activities, make sure you know the new schedules. All sports saw delays since the big shutdown in March, so the calendar has shifted from past years.

Penn State’s football schedule is about to get underway, so you have most of the season to enjoy. Pro teams have also started competing, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, WNBA, auto racing, tennis, golf and hockey. Whatever sport you prefer, you can view a comprehensive schedule of events here.

Gathering In-Person

Watching and playing sports is a very social activity—shouting at the tv or throwing the ol’ pigskin just isn’t as exciting alone. Now that social distancing mandates have relaxed, hosting a party to watch those games is finally a reality.

Grab your best sports buffs and bring the stadium experience home! Plan a sports-themed get-together complete with arena food, a motivational playlist, and team-specific decor. You could even create a signature cocktail; named and flavored for your competing teams.

Be sure to follow Pennsylvania’s reopening guidelines, and then go-wild! Make up for lost time and a lack of social interaction this year with an unforgettable sports party.

Invest In Your Viewing Space

Since fans can’t attend games, make your viewing room as enjoyable as possible. State-of-the-art entertainment centers are incredibly popular for sports and movie watching, and for good reason! Projector screens, top-of-the-line sound systems, and raked seating can give that stadium feel in the comfort of your home. Plus the snacks don’t cost an arm and a leg!

Bring On The Competition

Want to heighten the excitement for each game? Get your family or friends involved in the competition. Participating in a friendly clash with other sports enthusiasts makes each game more electrifying. Challenge your cohorts by betting on who will score the first touchdown or who will be the leading passer. You can even make this fun for non-sporty attendees, by having contests based around the commercials or halftime shows.
