LET'S TALK ABOUT HOLIDAY EVENTS IN SOUTH CENTRAL PA!

It's the time of year when you either hibernate due to the cold weather or get out and about and enjoy the Holiday season that is upon us.

There is a lot to see and do within our South Central Region. From gift and crafts shows to plays to tree lighting and Christmas lights galore.

When researching for this blog, I found a ton of activities for all ages. Still, to keep this manageable, I'm sharing my favorites by each county within minutes of our new home communities in our South Central Region.

Adams County

I highly recommend a simple stroll through Gettysburg's historic town center. You will be met with charm, a brightly lit Christmas tree, and holiday décor throughout this picturesque town. While in Gettysburg, you will want to take advantage of all the shopping, from the Outlet Shoppes to the numerous downtown shops and boutiques. Since we are right around the corner from Christmas, a must is a visit to the Christmas Haus where you will find authentic German décor, ornaments, nutcrackers, wood carvings and much more.

Cumberland County

Say "horse," and I'm in! That's why I'm including horse-drawn holiday carriage rides in downtown Carlisle, PA (just minutes from our Dickinson Place and Morgan's Crossing communities). Who doesn't love the twinkling of Christmas lights? Volvo Construction Equipment is hosting its 3rd annual Holiday Lights Drive-Thru. Take a drive in comfort (and warmth) of your car to see the decorated construction equipment.

Sorry guys! This one is for the ladies. Need a break from the hustle and bustle of shopping? ThisLadies Nightmight be of interest to you. Spend some time at Ashcombe Farm and Greenhouses in Mechanicsburg making a Holiday Porch Pot or a Succulent Wine Bottle Planter. These are just two of several workshops offered. And, of course, if you can't get enough shopping....they've got that too!

Dauphin County

The Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet presents an annual production of George Balanchine'sThe Nutcrackerat the Whitaker for Science and the Arts in downtown Harrisburg. This is truly a classic. If you are looking for something kid-friendly, kiddos 12 and under are welcome at Fort Hunter's Centennial Barn, to enjoy shopping for their parents, grandparents, etc, with help from the Fort Hunter elves. ClickHEREfor details. If you're looking for family fun in Dauphin County, I'll check outChristmas at Italian Lake, where you will enjoy unique gifts from local small businesses, horse-drawn sleigh rides, food trucks and live music.

Perry County

I can always see a few Christmas lights. A popular destination to enjoy Christmas lights, meet Santa and roast marshmallows are Light Up Little Buffalo. Little Buffalo State Park, located in Newport, PA, is just minutes from Stone Mill Estates in Duncannon. Want more lights? Millerstown Community Park is hosting a Lighted Holiday Trail. Take a stroll along the Juniata River while enjoying the lights.

York County

Music is definitely a part of the holiday season. Combine that with the classic "A Christmas Story," and you have a fun time. Check out A Christmas Story: The Musical at the Belmont Theatre in York, PA. Speaking of classic, you've got to see Santa at least once, so why not a Breakfast with Santa at Brown's Orchards & Farm Market in the Café at Browns? Mornings aren't your thing? Then check out An Evening with Santa Claus, presented by Stewartstown Railroad Company. Take a ride on a 1920 Passenger Coach where every family will have time to visit with Santa Claus himself and hear a reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas."
